Werner Löser S. J.: Jesus – der neue Mose. Zwölf Annäherungen an das Jesusbuch von Papst Benedikt XVI.

Das Jesusbuch Papst Benedikts XVI. ist nicht einfach ein frommes Betrachtungsbuch, sondern ein Beitrag zum gegenwärtigen wissenschaftlich-theologischen Gespräch. Benedikt zeichnet in theologischer Exegese biblischer Texte ein Bild Jesu von Nazareth, dessen wichtigste Konturen sich in der Aussage, er sei der »neue Mose«, zusammenfassen lassen. Es war sein Dienst, den Israel anvertrauten Namen Gottes in alle Völker hinzutragen. Von dieser Kernaussage des Buches aus erschließen sich die Erörterungen zu den vielen Themen einer heutigen Christologie, die einstweilen nur in einem ersten Teil vorgelegt wurde. Er beschränkt sich auf die Erhellung wichtiger Ereignisse im Leben des irdischen Jesus. In einem noch zu erwartetenden zweiten Teil wird es um die Theologie der Inkarnation und des Ostergeschehens gehen. Der vorstehende Beitrag gilt dem Versuch, den Platz aufzuweisen, der dem Jesusbuch des Papstes im Kontext der neueren Theologiegeschichte zukommt.

The Jesus-book of Pope Benedict XVI is not just a book for pious contemplation; it also makes a contribution to contemporary scholarly discussion. In his theological exegesis of biblical texts, Benedict sketches a portrait of Jesus of Nazareth whose most important contours can be summed up in the statement that he is the »new Moses«. His task was to bring to all nations the name of God entrusted to Israel. This central affirmation of the book leads into a discussion of the many themes of a contemporary Christology that are dealt with here only in a Part One in which Benedict limits himself to illuminating some important events in the life of the earthly Jesus. A still-to-come Part Two will deal with the theology of the Incarnation and of the Eastern event. The present article is an attempt to indicate the place of this Jesus-book of the Pope in the context of the recent history of theology.
